Carrie A. Rodgers

Attorney, Trial Section

As a child, Carrie Rodgers visited construction sites with her granddad, a carpenter. Ultimately, this led to an appreciation for how projects get built, becoming a construction lawyer was a natural transition.

For more than 20 years, Carrie has focused on solving construction disputes. As chair of the firm’s construction group, she deals daily with the business aspects of the construction industry, from drafting, negotiation, and review of contracts to litigation and arbitration of disputes that cannot be resolved. Personable but tenacious, she vigorously asserts and defends construction claims on behalf of owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, material and equipment suppliers, and homeowners associations, in public and private construction projects. She has specific, in-depth knowledge of mechanics’ lien and bond claims, and has litigated delay and defect claims, change order disputes, building collapse claims, and contract interpretation claims.

Carrie often consults with clients on construction insurance issues, including the array of new coverage products such as OCIPs and CCIPs, and project-specific insurance issues.

Carrie collaborates with the firm’s real estate attorneys on issues related to property acquisition, project financing, zoning, and environmental compliance. Construction clients always have employment issues, and Carrie has handled a wide array of employment matters including the defense of wrongful discharge, discrimination, harassment and unsafe workplace claims.

Carrie’s broad knowledge of construction helps her be a problem solver for her clients. She has represented hundreds of clients in effective dispute resolution. She is a trusted business consultant who works to develop best practices, and when necessary, to resolve issues through litigation, mediation, and arbitration.

An authority in the field, Carrie often lectures on construction issues including mechanics’ liens and bond claims, ethics in real estate construction defect law. She is a co-author of the industry handbook, Mechanics’ Lien, Colorado Bond and Miller Act Remedies.

A wife, mom and yes, grandmother, she loves to fly fish with a bamboo rod made by her husband and spends what time she can at their Montana fishing lodge and hiking in Yellowstone. She volunteers for the annual Women of Enterprise scholarship event at DU’s Real Estate & Construction Management School and tutors women entering the construction trades.
